MOSE is a system of movable dams aimed at protecting the city of Venice and its lagoon from the hide tide. The dams size vary from 18 to 27 meters of height: in normal tidal conditions, the floodgates are lying in their slots, full of water; when the high tide is coming, they are emptied of water and rotate until they emerge, blocking the incoming tide from the sea.
These engineered objects are new elements of the city, part of a contemporary Venice that has to fight against a rapidly deteriorating phenomenon.
